DGGS Winter concert

The Winter Concert on Thursday 14th December was a fantastic celebration of the combined musical talent of DGGS students. The atmosphere was wonderfully created with the dimmed lights and an animated slideshow for each performance portraying wintery scenes. While all the performers were incredible, some left the audience in awe.

The Year 7 Choir made a magical start to the evening, singing ‘White Christmas’ and ‘Believe’ from ‘The Polar Express’. May from 10P arranged a ‘2017 Pop Medley’ which she sang and accompanied herself on guitar. Mia from 7K gave a delightful rendition of ‘Silent Night’ by F.X. Gruber. Sarah in 13F delivered a professional performance of ‘Walking the Dog’ by George Gershwin on clarinet. The first half closed with Amanda from 11P directing the Gospel Choir performing ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘Joy to the world/Jesus is the reason’. The DGGS orchestra opened the second half of the concert with some festive medleys, including the challenging piece by Leroy Anderson ‘A Christmas Festival’.  Flutti Tutti delighted the audience  with ‘Carol of the Bells’ by Mykola Leontovych and ‘Cavatina’ by Stanley Myers and the penultimate feature of the evening was Miss Nastou directing the Contemporary Choir singing ‘Colours of the Wind’ and ‘Let it Snow’. Our final performer, David from 12A was a real showstopper, receiving a standing ovation with his version of Leonard Cohen’s soulful ‘Hallelujah’.

Well done to all the students who gave up their time to rehearse for weeks, with a special thank you to Music teachers Miss Zgoda and Miss Nastou for all their dedication and enthusiasm in producing their first concert at DGGS.
